Dear Penn State Industries,

I would like to first thank you on behalf of all 103 students enrolled in the Technology Education courses at Carol City Middle School in Miami-Dade County, FL.

My students really enjoyed the opportunity you and Saw Mill Creek Woodworker’s forum provided to honor our men and women in uniform. Along with the 10 pen kits supplied from Penn State and 103 from Saw Mill Creek, we created a total of 113 pens. We have participated in the Freedom Pen Project for several years now and each time it is truly an enjoyable experience. The responses from our servicemen/women shows overwhelmingly the joy they received from any support they get from folks back home.

So on that note, we again say "THANK YOU!!!"

Dear Penn State Industries,
On behalf of the Burges Technology Club, I like to thank you for the opportunity to return a little gratitude to the men and women who fight to protect our country.
Having four nephews myself and students also having family in the arm forces we know how good it feels to let our soldiers know we still care and pray for them. My club members enjoyed this project so much, that they have asked if they may continue this service throughout the school year.

A note of thanks for Freedom Pens

To all who have donated their time and support us, All of us at HMLA 367 Flightline would like to send a special thanks for all the handcrafted pens that you have donated to us.
Pens around here are constantly being used up for all the paperwork we fill out daily in between fixing and flying our AH-1W Super Cobra and UH-1N Huey Helicopters in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and will 100% be put to use. It’s awesome to know that back home in the USA we have such great support. We thank you again for the time and effort you have all put into the awesomely handcrafted pens. If there is anything we can do, please send us an email and we will see what we can do for your organization.

Kirby Middle School - San Antonio, TX

Kirby’s Advanced Technology students are eighth graders (l-r) Zachary Hinojosa, Jonathan Solorzano, Adrian Jimenez, Noe Gallo, Bryan Silva, Carlos Garza, and Alejandra Valdez.

The advanced technology education class at Kirby Middle School participated in the Freedom Pen Project. It is sponsored by members of the SawMill Creek Woodworkers Forum. Members of woodworker’s association and schools from around the country turned pens to send to our servicemen and women who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Robert Tienor, the Technology Education teacher, says that "this is a small token of our appreciation for their service to our country". His students turned 60 pens for this project; they used various hardwoods provided by the woodworks association. The kids had a great time making the pens. Mr. Tienor is retired Air Force and is proud to have worked on this project. He is also very proud of his students’ efforts.

Riverbend Middle School - Iowa Falls, IA

Freedom Pen Project
 Pens made with PSI kits & blanks

 
As of today students have completed over 100 pens for the project and continue to produce more pens almost everyday. Each student manufactures a pen for themselves that is part of the curriculum and participation in the Freedom Pen Project is voluntary. I have two requirements to be part of the program 1 – the student contributes to the pen making process and
2 – they write a note to the soldier receiving the pen that includes a message of support.
We got involved in the project because I am a member of the Saw Mill Creek woodworking forum and that is where the project originated. I won’t take the time to explain what the project is about, there is a web site that I would encourage you to look at www.freedompens.us it will do a much better job giving you information than I would. Also you can check out www.sawmillcreek.org to get day to day activity about the project.
All of the pictures were taken while the students worked on the Freedom Pen Project.
The Freedom Pen Project is a great service learning program for our students. It allows our young people to really connect with our soldiers that are doing an incredible job for our country.

North Sevier Middle School - Richfield, UT

North Sevier Middle School students are participating in the Freedom Pen Project with Penn State Industries (they are a member of the SawMill Creek Woodworkers Forum) in making pens for our military troops stationed in foreign countries. The goal of the project is for every freedom pen to serve as a constant reminder to our troops that they are not alone and that they have our continuing support.
The students have made ten pens to be sent to our troops.
